I’ve always had a fascination with Lego. The first set I remember having was a firestation. When I was a little older, I moved on to Lego Technic (a mix between Mecano and Lego), which I became truly fascinated with. Probably the last time I actually played with a Lego set was around my sixteenth birthday, but even though I’ve grown older, I haven’t ever really lost touch with it (I guess it’s what you get when we grow up as big kids). Recently a friend bought me a cool Star Wars themed Lego keyring, which is when I got thinking: “How come there aren’t any spanish themed Lego figurines?”…

Siempre he sentido unas fascinación especial con el Lego. El primer juego que recuerdo era de un parque de bomberos. Cuando tenía algunos años más, empecé a jugar con Lego Technic (que era una mezcla entre Mecano y Lego), a la que me enganché completamente. Quizás la última vez que jugué con unos Lego sería alrededor de mi 16 cumpleaños, pero aunque me haya hecho más viejo, realmente nunca he perdido contacto con él (supongo que es de esperar, teniendo en cuenta que somos todos unos niños grandes). Recientemente un amigo me regalo un llavero de Lego Star Wars que molaba mil, que fue cuando empecé a pensar: “¿Por que no hay más muñequitos Lego con aire español?”…

With this in mind, I started working on a new set of figurines inspired on “typical spanish” characters. That’s where are first figures come into play: el Quijote, the Gas Man and a football player with the new spanish strip (it even has a little star):

Con esto en mente, me puse a trabajar en una “colección” de figuras que estuviese inspirado en personajes típicamente “españoles”. Ahí surgió las primeras figuras de “Lego, Made in Spain”: el Quijote, el Butanero y un jugador de futbol con la nueva equipación (con estrellita y todo):

All of the previous images have been modelled in Maya, use textures that were created in Illustrator and are then finally composed in Photoshop. If you enjoy them, I hope that you will share them. I’d love to hear what you think.
